📋 Tour details

Experience Christmas traditions and culture from a local's perspective while exploring Budapest's best inner-city sights. Your tour begins with a glimpse into the State Opera House, followed by a stroll along the decorated Andrássy Avenue—Hungary's Champs-Élysées.

Your guide will show you City Hall Courtyard, where you can admire the ice skating rink and visit charity points that showcase how Hungarians donate to those in need during the Christmas season. You'll discover why we celebrate Jesus's birth in December and how local pagan customs were mixed into Christian tradition.

Walking along Fashion Street, you'll reach the first market at Vörösmarty Square, where you can enjoy the famous chimney cake. Budapest's Christmas fairs have been chosen as the best in Europe for several years, thanks to their focus on handcrafted products from local artisans and small manufacturers.

Along the Danube Corso, you'll take in breathtaking views of the Buda Castle District and Matthias Church before arriving at St. Stephen's Square, the home to Budapest's largest illuminated Christmas market, where you will warm up with a cup of mulled wine. Your guide will then lead you inside this magnificent Roman Catholic St. Stephen's Basilica for a guided tour.

The tour concludes in front of the Basilica, where you can enjoy a 5-minute light show—the Basilica façade dazzled by magnificent light painting. Just off the square, you'll find the famous Zrínyi pedestrian street and Budapest's Gastro area, with plenty of shops to explore.
